There is something wonderfully nostalgic about Robert Barry's Waterside Inn — a bustling summer scene beside a canal or lake that feels like the best kind of British day out. A red motorboat pulls up to the jetty while a sailing dinghy catches the breeze, and in the background a narrowboat glides along peacefully. On the bank, a couple walk their spaniel, a lady tends to her garden, and two children mess about in a rowing boat surrounded by wild irises and lupins. It is the sort of scene that makes you want to pack a picnic immediately.
Robert Barry has packed this image with lovely little details — the blue tit in flight, the bikes leaning against the fence, the parasols outside the inn, even a heron wading at the water's edge. There is always something new to spot, which makes the building process just as enjoyable as the finished result.
This is a Big 500 piece puzzle from House of Puzzles, with larger pieces that are ideal if you prefer a more relaxed build without losing any of the detail. It also includes two bonus shaped pieces for a fun extra challenge.
The scene has strong colour variety and clear focal points but contains many small figures, intricate foliage, and busy water reflections that will require careful sorting.
