Bruegel paints the rebel angels being thrown out of heaven, and he clearly enjoyed the falling part most. Clean-limbed angels in white come down from the top blowing trumpets, and everything below them turns into fish-headed, winged, many-legged things tumbling over one another in a heap that fills the bottom two thirds of the panel.
A crowded mass of small strange creatures in ochres and browns with almost no gaps. Finished size 69 x 48cm.
