Bruegel packs more than a hundred Flemish proverbs into one village and lets you find them. Somebody is banging his head against a brick wall, somebody else is casting roses before swine, a man in blue is being fitted with a cloak by his wife, and there is a fellow on the roof armed with a pie. None of it is explained.
A crowded village in Flemish browns and ochres with something happening in every corner. Finished size 69 x 48cm.
Dozens of small scenes in one narrow earth palette, with figures at every scale.
