The lorry comes through the dust in olive green with RAF roundels on the canvas tilt, Type 1300 stencilled on the door and a yellow disc with a seven on the wing. Nothing about it is in a hurry; it just keeps going over the broken ground.
What is left of a church stands behind (one gable end and a pointed window arch, still upright) with rubble either side and a low sun burning through the haze.
