The fighter comes round out of a bank of cloud with the light catching along the top of its wing, close enough that you can read the black cross and the number sixteen painted on its flank.
Everything is picked out: the mottled grey-green camouflage, the red band round the tail, the yellow under the nose and the spiral on the spinner, turning into a blur as it comes at you. Behind it the sky is bruised purple and heaped with cloud.
The predominantly grey and purple cloudy sky with a single grey-camouflaged aircraft makes colour differentiation difficult.
