Klimt painted a whole tangle of sleeping women here and then buried them in pattern until you can barely find where one ends and the next begins. Faces and bare shoulders surface out of a heap of fabric worked in spirals, discs, stripes and flowers, all of it in his hot reds and blues, and the figure at the top is the only one properly awake.
Pattern over pattern with the figures dissolving into it, which is a slow and satisfying one. Finished size 48 x 69cm.
Dense decorative pattern repeating across the whole canvas, with the faces the only landmarks.
