Venus comes ashore standing on a great scallop shell, all that red-gold hair blowing across her and one long strand gathered up in her hand. The sea underneath is pale green, drawn in neat little chevrons out to the horizon.

On the left two winged figures wrapped in blue drapery blow her towards the land, and the air between them is full of falling pink roses. On the right a woman in a flowered dress hurries out with a cloak held open, ready to cover her.
