A black and white photograph of Frida Kahlo sits at the centre, surrounded by a wall of colour that's anything but black and white. Red poppies frame her face, a blue morning glory butterfly hovers top left, and a hummingbird dips into the plumeria blooms bottom right. Her green beaded necklace and the geometric border pick up on the Mexican folk art she's so associated with.
It's the mix of photo and illustration that makes this one interesting to piece together. The monochrome portrait gives you a clear anchor to work from, while the dense tropical leaves and layered flowers around it will keep you sorting through an awful lot of green and pink. Good one for an evening when you want to concentrate on something other than the telly.
500 pieces makes this a manageable size for an afternoon or two, without being over too quickly.
The dense, layered foliage and repeated leaf shapes in similar greens make sorting tricky, though the central portrait offers a clear focal anchor.
