Leonardo's man stands with his arms out and his feet together, and then again with his arms raised and his legs apart, so that one body fits both the square and the circle drawn around him. His hair is a mass of curls and he looks straight out at you.
The paper has aged to a warm tea colour, foxed and spotted at the corners, and Leonardo's mirror writing runs in dense lines above his head and below his feet.
