A sunny summer's day on Weymouth's quayside, painted by Trevor Mitchell. Families are strolling along the harbour arm (a boy clutching an ice cream, a toddler in sunglasses making short work of a snack, gulls overhead), while fishing boats with orange buoys bob alongside. Across the water, the famous row of colourful Georgian townhouses lines the quay in blues, pinks, yellows and reds, with market awnings and visitors milling about in the background.
Mitchell packs a lot into the scene without it ever feeling cluttered. The foreground figures are painted with real detail (you can read the slogan on someone's T-shirt), and the water and sky give the eye somewhere to breathe. It's the kind of image that keeps giving you something new to notice as the build goes on.
At 1000 pieces this is a solid afternoon's work. The busy quayside and varied architecture help enormously with sorting, though the bright summer sky and the reflected water will keep you honest. Falcon de Luxe marks its 50th anniversary on the box, with the strapline Crafted with excellence for 50 years.
