A café table dressed in a red gingham cloth sits right at the water's edge, and beyond it the harbour at Cassis is packed with wooden fishing boats, all moored up in that particular jumble that only small French ports seem to manage. The buildings lining the quay are every shade of ochre, pink and yellow, with green shutters and striped awnings, and behind them a pale mountain rises against the sky.

It's a busy painting to work through. The boats alone give you dozens of similar blue-and-white hulls to untangle, and the reflections in the water break the colours up into smaller, trickier pieces than they first appear. The café awning, the bunting strung along the harbour wall and the distant sailboats all add extra points to work from once the main shapes are in.

Good one to have on the go over a few evenings rather than rushed in an afternoon.

About this puzzle

4/5
Hard

Dense clusters of similarly coloured boats and their reflections in the water make sorting tricky despite the bright overall palette.
