Lewis Carroll's story is laid out here like an illustrated map of Wonderland itself. Alice sits at the centre, holding a cat, surrounded by a circular scroll of famous quotes — "Off with their heads!", "We're all mad here", "One side will make you grow taller" — while each corner of the image fills in a different chapter. The Queen of Hearts looms top-left, the hookah-smoking Caterpillar crouches on his mushroom bottom-left, the White Rabbit rushes past a flamingo bottom-right, and the Duchess and her companions fill the top-right panel.
The whole design has a dark, jewel-toned quality — deep greens and inky blues with vivid pops of pink and red — that makes it feel more like a gothic fairy tale than a children's book. Playing cards, a pocket watch, a key, a potion bottle and tarts are scattered throughout as little Easter eggs worth hunting out as you build.
1,000 pieces. The rich colour contrast between sections helps enormously with sorting, though the dark central panel and the dense foliage in the corners will slow you down a bit. A solid weekend build with plenty to keep you occupied.
Dark jewel-toned palette with dense foliage, intricate illustrated details and a near-black central panel create several large areas of subtle tonal variation that are tricky to distinguish.
