Away in a Manger

A nativity under a thatched roof, lit by one hanging lantern. Mary kneels in blue at the crib, Joseph stands with his staff, shepherds in red robes gather at the straw, and lambs, a goat and a few hens have settled in around them. The magi come down the hill on camels beneath the star.

Extra-large pieces and a strong pool of lamplight at the centre; the deep blue night sky is the quieter stretch. Finished size 48 x 34cm.
