Utagawa Hiroshige - Drum bridge at Meguro and Sunset Hill, 1857

It's a snowy evening and the whole village has gone quiet. Five travellers in wide straw hats are making their way across the arched stone bridge, one sheltering under an umbrella, another bundled up beside the fence, and a pair huddled together at the edge of the bank. Below them the river runs deep blue between pines weighed down with snow, and the night sky is already filling with flakes. Where could they all be heading in this weather?
