That black cat has clearly decided the stack of Christmas songbooks makes a fine perch, and it's peering straight out at you as if it's just been caught. Behind it, a spray of holly berries, red camellias and white lilies fills the top of the frame, with a warm golden light glowing through from somewhere off to the side.
There's a nice bit of variety to sort through here: the deep black of the cat's fur against those bright green-gold eyes, the printed titles running down the spines of the books, and the layered greenery above. The book spines in particular give you plenty of sharp edges and lettering to work from, which makes a good starting point if the black fur feels daunting at first.
Worth doing by a window with some good light, so you can pick out the subtle shading in that coat.
The solid black cat covers a large portion of the image with very subtle tonal shifts, making that area tricky despite the colourful, distinct border details.
