Rows of real beetles and shield bugs photographed against white by Christopher Marley and graded roughly by size — jewel beetles in iridescent green and gold, weevils speckled like granite, one long rose-pink longhorn, others in orange, violet, cream and metallic teal. Every colour is the insect's own, with nothing added.
Each specimen is unmistakable, which leaves the white space between them as the real work. Finished size 68.6 x 50.8cm.
Hundreds of small, similarly-shaped insects on a white background with subtle colour differences makes sorting and placement very challenging.
