Nine shelves of old books floor to ceiling, spines in oxblood, tan, olive and cream with gold tooling along them. Down in the corner a man in green trousers has vanished behind a newspaper in a brown leather armchair, a white cat asleep on the chair back and a wire-haired terrier waiting on the floorboards. Rebecca Campbell painted somewhere near 500 books into it.
The shelves repeat with only small shifts in colour and height, which leaves the armchair corner as the one landmark. Finished size 64 x 50cm.
Rows upon rows of similarly coloured book spines against dark shelving create a highly repetitive pattern with very few distinguishing features.
